Kaouther Ben Amor

Kaouther Ben Amor is a French-Tunisian dancer and choreographer with a long international career in Oriental dance. Her work combines Raqs Sharqi with a theatrical sensibility shaped by her North African cultural background and extensive performance experience. She became known for expressive choreography and for treating Oriental dance as material suitable for sophisticated theatrical production. Kaouther has performed internationally and has also worked beyond the belly-dance festival world, including choreography for film. Her credits include the creation of Oriental dance material for the film *Outside the Law*, which was presented in competition at Cannes in 2010. Her career illustrates how a professional Oriental dancer can move between traditional repertoire, theatrical creation and mainstream film choreography.
